ゲーム開発者たちの祭典、GDC（ゲームデベロッパーズ カンファレンス）2016にて、数あるタイトルの中からゲーム開発者自身が優れたタイトルを選出する「16th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards」が開催された。
最優秀賞となるGame of the Yearに輝いたのは、国内外の一般ゲーマーからの評価も高かった『The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt（ウィッチャー3 ワイルドハント）』で、『MGSV:TPP』や『Fallout 4』といった強豪を下しての勝利となった。
